Look, I am in no way capable of being objective when it comes to Ronda Rousey. I love everything about her. Her performance in the Entourage movie? Give her an Oscar! So it’s with a heavy heart that I pass along the latest news from one of the country’s toughest face-smashers. Ronda Rousey’s upcoming fight against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on December 30 will be one of her final trips into the Octagon.
In an interview on Ellen, Rousey said of her career that she was “wrapping it up” and that “this is definitely one of my last fights. Everybody better watch, because the show isn’t going to be around forever.” UFC boss Dana White confirmed as much to TMZ, saying:
“Listen, I don’t want to take the wind out of her sail, let her say her own stuff, obviously I know what’s going on with her, but yeah it’s winding down for Ronda… That’s up to her to say [how many fights she has left]. I don’t want to steal her thunder. It’s her career but she’ll have enough for us to still enjoy watching her….
Ronda Rousey’s made a lot of money. She made a lot of money, she accomplished what she set out to do. You get to a point, especially in this business, when you have to start looking at things and going, y’know…she loves acting. She loves acting, she’s good at it and if she dedicates herself to it, she’ll be even better at it.”
I think I speak for everyone when I say, what?!?!?! It’s been almost a year since Rousey fought and lost to Holly Holm, and I’ve been sitting here eagerly anticipating Rousey’s comeback. At her best, there wasn’t a more electric athlete in any sport.
