With work, social events and other types of relationships not only taking up our time, but also causing us a bunch of anxiety, it’s no surprise that people in the United States admit to getting a “poor” night’s rest—according to a 2014 study on the issue.

We all get so caught up in things that, one of the most important things in our lives—sleep—often gets sacrificed because of it.

For those who can relate to a nightly routine of five-to-six-hours of sleep, there’s a trick that might just help you overcome the tossing and turning—and it’s something that can, potentially, knock you out in just 60 seconds.

Known as the “4-7-8 Breathing Exercise,” here’s how it works, per BrightSide:

  • 1. Breathe calmly through your nose for 4 seconds.
  • 2. Hold your breath for 7 seconds.
  • 3. Breathe out slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds.

Who knows if this will actually work, but, based off of the author of the aforementioned BrightSide piece, it sure sounds like it’s an exercise that helps alleviate stress and those times when your mind seems to be running a million miles per second.
