All hail Kong: Skull Island for putting the actor on a red carpet again

Whether Kong: Skull Island ends up being as riveting as the trailer promises, the movie has already given us a great gift in the form of Tom Hiddleston on the red carpet. It’s been almost a year since Hiddleston suited up for a press tour and, well, we missed the guy. Not that we don’t appreciate classic black-tie Hiddleston, or preppy off-duty Hiddleston, or even balls-out Fourth-of-July Hiddleston, but the man really shines in tailoring. For one, he’s 6’2” and looks great in a suit. For another, he clearly enjoys wearing them. On top of that, he has one of the best menswear stylists in the game, Ilaria Urbinati, and he also wears a lot of Gucci—never a bad thing. (We photographed him in spring’s newest suits—all in shades of brown—for our March 2017 cover and if the results don’t make you want to buy one for your own closet, there’s a chance you might be dead inside.)

This particular Gucci look, which Hiddleston wore today to the European premiere of Kong, proves he’s not sleeping on the job of being a impeccably dressed movie star. A two-button, notch lapel navy suit like this would do any man wonders, regardless of body type or access to a professional stylist. Look a little bit closer at the details and you start to understand why Hiddleston stands out from the pack. The shirt is just blue enough to pop without being overly saturated, and the accessories add depth with texture and color. In short, it’s the least boring way to do a navy suit while still staying firmly rooted in the realm of classic.

If Kong is half as good as Hiddleston looked today, it’ll be a success
